6.8 seems to be popular recently, a couple of 50's are available but $$$ to shoot.

9mm's have been problematic for many folks, I had one and it never ran to my satisfaction despite lot's of work on it. Given the cost of 5.45X39 ammo I would consider that or go bigger with something like 300 Whisper and reload. I am very tempted to try to work up a 7.62X25 upper. Of course you could go with the 5.7X28 upper as well with it's 50 round mags and bottom ejection and the ammo is priced about the same as middle of the road .223 at 38 cents per round. I have thought about this as well...tough for me to justify another AR tho with 4 in the safe in various calibers and lengths already...lol.

6.5 Grendel - out of a 24" barrel it has similar ballistics to a .30-'06 at 1,000 yards.

I'm a doubles guy. I don't feel like I actually own a rifle unless I have a parts kit and a duplicate upper! If it was me, I would build a duplicate of my favorite rifle - and have confidence in knowing it would last twice as long in the event that parts become tough to come by...

Plus it will take the same mags and ammo that you already use...

Now that sounds interesting, any sources for that upper?

That makes sense also, but that being said I could buy an extra upper for the one I have, I like the idea of the range on the grendel though.

Besides the 50 BMG there is the 50 Beowolf which is probably only 1.50 a round. WHere you getting 50 BMG for $3 ea? $5-$7 is what I am seeing.

That's what I am thinking also. You get mag and ammo compatibility along with a complete parts kit!

I am not advertising for this company, it is just that I have been able to purchase upper assemblies when all others were out. They are very reliable, reasonable, and fast in shipping, and most of all, what they advertise is in stock. Try: pkfirearms.com
